Live Review: Circa Survive With PVRIS @ The Met 18.09.15
For many of us, The Met Nightclub has become a traditional stop on a night out in Brisbane’s infamous Fortitude Valley, however, every now and then the venue gives us the opportunity to ditch the heels and trade them in for our dancing shoes as they play host to some great live acts such as Charli XCX, twenty one pilots and now Circa Survive with guests PVRIS.
Album Of The Week: Lana Del Ray 'Honeymoon'
Lana Del Rey's heavily anticipated fourth studio album 'Honeymoon' opens like a stage curtain, as if the first track was scored from some faded black and white film. Immediately haunting, orchestral and mysterious, her signature croon wafts over piano and violin before moving via soft percussive undertones and slowly embellished harmony into Fiona Apple territory. Any fan of layered vocals, classical instrumentation and sixties movies will immediately fall in love.
EP Review: Summer Flake ‘Time Rolls By’
The solo project of Melbourne via Adelaide post-grunge legend Stephanie Crase are just weeks from releasing their new EP “Time Rolls By”. It’s the first we’ve heard from Summer Flake since 2013’s superb dreamy pop-grunge album “You Can Have It All”. Backed by a new band, Crase continues the sun drunk life-sick grunge but with a slightly brighter tone.
Live Review: The Preatures, The Creases @ The Met 19.09.15
The Preatures had the odds stacked against them for their Brisbane show at infamous club dungeon The Met, but fortunately their incredible live stamina and rapidly growing catalogue of catchy neo 70s, soul inspired tunes was enough to make up for the downsides of the night.
EP Review: Ali Barter 'AB-EP'
The ‘AB-EP’, Melbourne singer/songwriter Ali Barter’s third EP offering, represents some of her most varied work to date, and illustrates her readiness for a debut album. Indeed, for a Triple J Unearthed winner, Ali can be considered to have moved at a cautious rate, building skills and credibility incrementally rather than audaciously.
EP Review: Loren Kate's 'Til Night Meets The Sun'
After winning the Telstra Road To Discovery last year, Loren Kate has released her first single When You Leave from the upcoming EP ‘Til The Night Meets The Sun’, which is out next month. I was lucky enough to get an early listen to the EP. For most of this EP I had goose bumps, the songs are truly stories that Loren makes feel so real that you can almost reach out and touch them with the help of just your headphones.
Album Of The Week: Robert DeLong “In The Cards”
Robert DeLong burst onto the world stage in 2013 with his international hit Global Concepts from debut album “Just Movement”. After years of playing festivals and dive bars all over the world the producer and multi-instrumentalist is back with his sophomore album “In The Cards”.
