Live Review: Florence + The Machine @ The Riverstage, 18.11.2015
Florence is a machine. There’s no denying that. After powering through a headline spot at Splendour in the Grass this year, and countless other inclusions in the lineups of some of the biggest music festival this globe has to offer. But witnessing the display of soaring vocals and an energy that would challenge any elite athlete’s, Florence + The Machine made a lasting impression on a sold out Brisbane crowd for the last night of her Australian tour. One of the best live performances we’ve seen all year, no question.
Live Review: I Know Leopard @ The Milk Factory 13.11.15
A generous crowd packed into East Brisbane’s coziest live music venue The Milk Factory to catch I Know Leopard, touring in support of their latest EP “Another Life”. Led by the energetic and cheerful Luke O'Loughlin, the Sydney 5-piece performed a gorgeous set of dreamy indie pop with just enough groove to keep the Friday night revelers entertained.
Live Review: Future Islands + Curse Ov Dialect @ The Triffid 16.11.2015
We all know the video: Future Islands performing Seasons on Letterman in March, 2014. The performance very quickly put the band on the map, or rather, singer Samuel T. Herring’s unique performance put them on the map.
Live Review: The Brian Jonestown Massacre @ The Triffid 13/11/15
At the end of the documentary DiG! on the bands The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols, and the rivalries and egos of their front-men Anton Newcombe and Courtney Taylor, Newcombe’s fate is left ambiguous, while Taylor and the Dandys are essentially declared the victors.
Review: Dolores Haze's ‘The Haze Is Forever’
Stockholm’s lo-fi punk four-piece Dolores Haze have recently released their new album ‘The Haze Is Forever’, a collection of their sharp and magnetic DIY-style punk/pop.
Live Review: The Darkness @ The Tivoli 8/11/15
A near capacity crowd filled The Tivoli to catch one of the UK’s greatest hard rock exports The Darkness. Led by the weird and wonderful Justin Hawkins, the British outfit delivered a powerful two hour set drenched in equal parts distortion and sweat, ending in a monumental stage dive and hundreds of blissfully ringing ears.
Live Review: AC/DC, The Hives @ QSAC Stadium, 12.11.2015
The air was electric, a buzz of energy as the house lights went down. A crowd of 45, 000 strong held their breath, and roared as one when the screens lit up. The intro movie played, and as astronauts stumbled upon a flaming comet that started to hurtle towards earth, fireworks and explosions burst from the stage, accompanied by the searing strum of a black Gibson SG. The metal chairs rattled and the entire grandstand shook as AC/DC hit their first notes and blistered in to their set. The greatest rock ‘n’ roll show in the world was in Brisbane, and I was bobbing my head, a giddy grin plastered on my face that didn’t leave until well after the lights went out. This was AC/DC, and I couldn’t be happier.
Live Review: Fleetwood Mac @ Brisbane Entertainment Centre, 10.11.2015
Three hours had never flown so quickly. Fleetwood Mac packed some of their crème-de-la-crème, intimate stories behind songs, and some down right impressive displays of the everlasting musical ability of the five silver haired legends. To see the five originals united together again was certainly a special moment for everyone in the packed Brisbane Entertainment Centre, and from the roaring demand for two encores and standing ovations handed out left right and centre, the timelessness of the troupe was undoubtedly true.
