EP Of The Week: Tired Lion 'Figurine'

Perth based quartet Tired Lion have been anything but lethargic in 2015. After nailing their Like A Version and supporting everyone from The 1975 to Velociraptor the youngsters have gone and snagged themselves a Splendour spot as an unearthed artist. Live Review: Youth Group, Rolls Bayce, Machine Age @ Black Bear Lodge 04.07.15

Sydney four piece Youth Group has been hounded for most of their career with the tagline of ‘that band from The OC’. Live Review: American Football w/ Birthmark & Hollow Everdaze

American Football’s gig at the Zoo on Friday night had actually received the biggest promotional boost months before, in the form of Brisbane punters so enthused by the idea of what was very likely the first and only opportunity to see the cultishly revered band live that they forced a venue change from the Brightside to the Zoo. As it was, the Zoo’s hallowed, sweat-stained walls were groaning at the weight of pulsating humanity. It was a steaming mix of a surprisingly youth-skewed audience; of course, there was an older crowd, the first generation of American Football fans, but those cheering loudest were undoubtedly from the second generation, those that missed the wave but keep on paddling behind the crest.

Live Review: Japanese Wallpaper, Montaigne, Banff @ The Zoo 02.07.2015

Trooping his way through 2014, Japanese Wallpaper (aka Gab Strum) has become the musical son that we all adopted into our hearts. Whether you fell in love with him after took out the Triple J Unearthed High Competition last year, or you’ve been stalking him like crazy since his debut single popped up in a Zach Braff flick, the Melbourne school kid has made a lasting impression on our music scene but it’s hard to say whether he is ready to headline a national tour.

Album of the Week: 'My Love is Cool' by Wolf Alice

Wolf Alice’s debut LP, My Love Is Cool, is a shotgun blast of 90’s musical genres against a blank canvas that has somehow stuck, leaving a Jackson Pollock spray of grunge, shoegaze and rock that makes up in enthusiasm what it lacks in coherency.
