Melbourne four-piece APES have been confirmed as the official supporting band for The Darkness’s Australian tour in November.
APES first got the attention of triple j and the UK’s BBC Radio 1 with their debut single Seven when it was released in late 2012. Their debut EP, produced by Malcolm Besley (Northeast Party House, Millions) and masted by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, The Shins) at Magic Garden Mastering and was released to the world on 21 June 2013.
With a mix of raw garage rock and raucous foot stamping choruses APES are a throwback to the heady days of Australia’s illustrious rock and garage/punk past, with just a little bit of indie bombast for good measure.
Combining an ear for scrappy, rough and ready melodies with strong hooks, APES stamp the sound as their own. Having played shows around the country with the likes of The Datsuns, Dune Rats and Yacht Club DJs, APES high energy live shows landed them spots on 2013s Big Day Out and Groovin’ The Moo festivals.
The boys have been a bit quiet of late, putting in a lot of hard work writing and recording new material, but what better way to get back on the road than to support UK rock legends The Darkness.
