Feature Interview: Fat Freddy's Drop
Splendour in the Grass is upon us and AAA's Gabriella had the chance to chat with Dobie Blaze aka Iain Gordon (keyboards) from New Zealand collective Fat Freddy's Drop and discuss the new album...
Fat Freddy’s Drop may be a little fatter and a little closer to dropping, but that day is still far with the announcement that the New Zealand seven-piece jazz fusionists are releasing their fourth studio record, ‘Bays’, as well as touring Australia in February for their most comprehensive headlines dates yet.
‘Bays’ is so named for where it was recorded, at the bands’ BAYS Studio in Kilbirnie, Wellington. The nine track LP continues where FFD left off with 2013’s successful ‘Blackbird’ album, which has gone on to sell over 175 000 copies. Their Jackson Pollock splatter of musical styles, which incorporates jazz, funk, reggae, dub, roots and techno, has sold out prestigious venues such as Sydney’s Opera House and London’s Alexandra Palace.
Tickets for Fat Freddy’s Drop’s Tour go on sale Friday 11 September at 10 am. ‘Bays’ is out in Australia on Friday 23 October via The Drop/ Remote Control Records.
