GOLD for Chet Faker's 'Thinking In Textures'
A round of applause for Chet Faker, as his debut release Thinking In Textures has gone GOLD in Australia.
The Frontier Touring Company is pleased to announce that Vampire Weekend are coming to Melbourne and Sydney this January for two special summer headline shows!
Following a wildly entertaining set at Australia's acclaimed Big Day Out Festival in January, the band is ready to make the return trip Down Under in 2014 for two special headlining shows in Melbourne and Sydney on January 6th and 8th, respectively. This announcement comes after the band recently confirmed their appearance at The Falls Music & Arts Festival in Marion Bay, Lorne and Byron Bay at the end of 2013.
Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Baio and Chris Tomson have laid claim to 2013 with the release of their history-making third album, Modern Vampires of the City (through XL Recordings/ Remote Control)(watch the clip for single ‘Diane Young’ here). The album debuted at #7 on the ARIA chart here in Australia, but landed squarely at #1 on the U.S. album chart in their homeland upon making it the band's second consecutive chart-topping release -- after 2010's Contra -- and Vampire Weekend the first independent rock band to ever achieve back-to-back #1 debuts. Modern Vampires of the City proved to be both commercially and critically successful as reviewers lauded:
‘As hoped: Impressive’ - triple j magazine, 8/10
‘Vampire Weekend have gotten better at just about everything they do.’ – Rolling Stone, 4.5 Stars
‘But as ever, the commitment to clever wordplay doesn't blunt song's emotional core… Damn these guys for having it both ways.’ – Pitchfork, 9.3/10
Shortly after the May release of their new album, Vampire Weekend embarked on a massive tour of the European and North American summer festival circuit. During these engagements, the band proved to be one of the most exciting live acts in music with audiences and critics alike raving:
"…they’re headliners. And my lord are they headliners, one of the best I’ve seen all season." - Consequence of Sound, 10 Things We Loved at Boston Calling
When Vampire Weekend graced Australian shores for a headline performance earlier this year, the show unsurprisingly sold out swiftly. Their flawless live execution made the atmosphere palpable and when they return next January with special guests Gang of Youths and armed with a whole new set of stompers alongside their insanely infectious classics, you can expect tickets to fly just as fast.
