Tom Lark Announces East Coast Hipsteranity Tour!

Tom Lark

It’s rare when a support act nearly upstages the headliner. Tom Lark did just that, busting out some electric energy with his crowd rocking garage pop. Lark’s piercing blue eyes, sandy blond locks, and jolting shimmies were reminiscent of a Radish-era Ben Kweller. Even though he is billed as a solo act, Lark’s band backs him with an equal amount of moxie - The Echo Los Angeles (October 2012)

Hot on the heels of his Sydney FBi Social show last month Tom Lark has announced his 4th run of shows in Australia in 6 months with headline shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Tom and his band will be celebrating the release of their new single and video, Hipsteranity, and will be performing songs from their soon to be released album produced by Simon Berkfinger (Philadelphia Grand Jury/Feelings) at his Berlin studio at the end of 2012.

Tom also recently played his first American shows at the New York CMJ College Music Festival to packed audiences with his US sojourn including shows in California, ending their 3-week tour at The Echo in Silverlake with Western Australia’s own, San Cisco.

While most bands just worry about noise control getting called to their practice space, spare a thought for Tom Lark whose routine practice space and studio was demolished in the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquake. Suddenly, with nowhere to practice and record with his usual band, Tom found himself retreating to his bedroom. Rather than be discouraged by the setback, he instead discovered inspiration in the newfound restrictions and was soon penning new songs in a fresh voice and style.

Armed with only this new set of songs, a defective laptop and whatever instruments he could lay his hands on, the Tom Lark EP was born. The resulting work marries ricocheting samples with folk guitar work, a plaintive voice and a deft sense of storytelling.

“What seems to start like a punch from a younger brother, taunting, over-joyous and bold ends up taking a turn for the more serious by the latter half of the album. With good feelings and momentary satire, Tom Lark has crafted, in one light, a pure and honest record. In another light, he’s made a near absurd gesture at the entirety of our pitiful existence” - www.dingusonmusic.com/
