THE MERCY BEAT are a well-established and revered hard rock band out of Brisbane and the raucous Sex Funeral is the latest piece of bullion to have poured from the furnace of this outfit.
Following the release of their debut album in 2010 and numerous runs south THE MERCY BEAT have developed a reputation for drawing elements from bands as farranging as Led Zeppelin to the Bronx and Fugazi to The Jesus Lizard to form their exciting cohort of hard rock fusion slabs that have already impressed so many. The guys are now positioned to birth their new, tighter sound which has been described as forcing all the ambition of Mastodon into the digestible rock format of the Foo Fighters. This refinement has been achieved with the aiding and guiding hand of Australasia’s heavy-weight producer Tom Larkin (Shihad, Calling All Cars, High Tension). A number of golden tracks have emerged from the Studios in The City (Tom’s Melbourne studio) sessions/stew pot with Sex Funeral being the first meat to fall from the bone.
Sex Funeral is a sinewy bit of gristle rock that not only bangs but sings! These guys are producing the most exciting and interesting hard rock to come from these shores in quite some time and Sex Funeral will prove to cement this further.
