Money's Singing 'Suicide Songs'

After being off the scene for a while, Money are coming back with melancholically sad, hopeless, yet positive new album ‘Suicide Songs’, which is out January 29.

Nothing is simple, when it comes to songwriting. Guys from Money are the pure example of what is to write tunes in happiness and sorrow, in sweat and despair, in joy and delight. A year ago, Jamie Lee moved to London with intentions of becoming the best writer he could possibly be, whilst his partners in crime Billie and Charlie stayed writing and composing in Manchester. Now, after, certainly, a while, guys have polished everything and ready to show the world their second bittersweet album ‘Suicide Songs’.

‘Suicide Songs’ is a bit of everything: starting from pretty disturbing, almost tortured A Cocaine Christmas And An Alcoholic’s New Year, followed by hopeful and positive I’ll Be The Night and topping with both sad and cheering Hopeless World and somewhat relentless I’m Not Here.

While the title might sound pretty stressful, Jamie wants to assure that the band isn’t at all glorifying mental illness, it’s just the title that came up in the difficult times and seemed legit and appropriate.

"Above all else, I'm just trying to project and portray a poetic truth. Suicide is about anonymity, to the point where you don't exist, which I definitely feel in my songwriting and as a person. But rather than writing myself out of anonymity, I want to remain there, in this record at least. It's recognising a kind of sacrificial nature, in making artistic choices. By rummaging around in your feelings and trying to make sense of life, to the detriment of your health, there might be some poetic value to what you have created", says Jamie.

‘Suicide Songs’ will be out January 29 on Bella Union, so prepare yourself for something intimate and…probably, challenging.
