Junior Boys Back With New Album

Junior Boys have announced that their first new album in almost five years, ‘Big Black Coat’, will be released on 5 February 2016 via Inertia.

The first single off the album, called Big Black Coat, is already out and sees them embracing their love of techno while simultaneously refining their soul-pop sensibilities.

This new album from the Ontario based duo of Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus features a renewed vigour and an overall sharp mix of sounds. This newfound energy is what inspired the pair to strip their original version of Love Is A Fire back down to its looped bare bones and made Greenspan experiment with vocal treatments. However it is the single Big Black Coat that kicks off the album and sets the tone for the rest of the record.

Fusing disco and soul with the industrial pop and techno of Greenspan’s formative teens is what makes ‘Big Black Coat’ so distinctive and compelling. It’s the sound of Junior Boys both cutting loose and reconnecting.

Since forming in 1999, Junior Boys have gone on to release four albums. Their 2004 debut ‘Last Exit’ and the 2006 follow-up ‘So This Is Goodbye’ were well received and prefigured the digital R&B that has exploded in popularity over the past few years. Their last album, ‘All True’, was released in 2011 and it has been the ensuing years since that have shaped ‘Big Black Coat’ which promises to be the most interesting release yet from Junior Boys.
