Brisbane indie-psychedelic supergroup The Belligerents have announced their new EP “Outside:Inside”, featuring singles In My Way and Voices, will be released this Friday.
Self produced by the band and engineered by their bassist Konstantin Kersting, “Outside:Inside” is the result of three hard years of writing, recording, and rekindled creativity within the band.
“A lot of stuff happened in that time. We split with our long time manager and at one point we were all pretty sure we weren't going to continue making music as The Belligerents - it felt like we had been drained of all of our energy and we weren't gelling creatively as we had in the past.
“The boys all went and did their own things and for a solid year or two we didn't really do anything as a band. It was only when we went back into the studio and started recording these new songs that we started feeling passionate about the whole thing again.
“It was the first time that we self-produced and ultimately I think that's what got us all excited about the band again. It kind of felt like for the first time we were recording and putting out the kind of music we wanted to make and it was sounding the way that we had previously imagined it in our head," Kersting said.
The upcoming EP is a defining release for the Brisbane super group, responsible for spawning some of the most talked about local indie bands, sharing members with Orphans Orphans, Moses Gunn Collective, The Furrs, Morning Harvey, Family Jordan, and The Jungle Giants.
“Outside:Inside” is The Belligerents’ first full-length release since 2012’s EP “She Calls The Shots”, seeing the band developing sonically from their early indie dance sound to now riding a wave of psychedelic explosions with their distinctive raw and experimental sound.
The five-piece scored national attention earlier this year with a jaw-dropping rendition of Fat Boy Slim’s Praise You for Triple J's Like a Version, and their recent singles In My Way and Voices have scored high rotation on Triple J.
The Belligerents will tour “Outside:Inside” nationally throughout November and December, including festival shows at Panacea Festival (Formerly Between The Hills), Jungle Love Music & Arts Festival, and Festival Of The Sun.
“Outside:Inside” is released Friday 23rd October.
