Hedge Fund Release ‘Boyfriend’ Music Video

Sydney-based rock outfit Hedge Fund have released their official music video to recent single Boyfriend, staring YouTube personality Jordan Markovina a.k.a. friendlyjordies.

Based on tension that comes from accepting responsibility growing up, the video sees Markovina vent his frustration through the persona of an angry gorilla as he covers himself in dirt, fights invisible attackers, and tears off grass and tree branches.

The aggressive sonic energy in Boyfriend was imperative to recreate visually according to the band’s Frontman and Director of the video William Colvin.

Colvin said the motivation behind the clip was to strip everything back and make something that was purely about performance.

“(It’s why) I immediately thought of Jordan for the role. He’s an incredibly talented physical performer and he’s very, very funny, so he understood what we were trying to achieve pretty much instantly.

“Conceptually, it’s best not to think too deeply about this clip. It’s funny, it’s frightening, and it appeals to the caveman in everyone. It’s brain-dead, violent, and also weirdly innocent,” Colvin said.

Boyfriend delves deeper into the band’s post-rock influences including The Cure, Devo, and Blondie whilst retaining their signature indie-rock delivery.

Hedge Fund will soon be hitting the road with dates to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
