The John Steel Singers Premiere New Video With RSPCA

Beloved Brisbane band The John Steel Singers have teamed up with RSPCA Queensland with the charity premiering the video for their latest track Weekend Lover.

The video features starring performances from the band’s four-legged companions Harvey (the Golden Cocker Spaniel), Arrow (the Dachshund) and Boots the cat. Filmed over a few weekends at the homes of Tim Morrissey and Luke McDonald, a few different parks and streets and at a Gold Coast beach, the video aims to bring awareness to the tireless work of the RSCPA and hopes to raise much needed funds.

The concept of the film developed from a Homeward Bound or Milo and Otis type story of animal runaways becoming travel companions, drawing inspiration from the classic buddy road trip to the beach.

The single, with its classy sax solo, whirly synths, off-beat guitar and catchy chorus, is the first and only taste of the bands long awaited third full length album, ‘Midnight At The Plutonium’ which is slated for release early in the new year via their own label Plutonium Records and Create Control.

The triple j Unearthed winners have been kept busy by building their own recording studio, aptly named The Plutonium, which has had the likes of Cloud Control and Blank Realm within the walls. However it is ‘Midnight At The Plutonium’ that has really made the studio its home, which marks a new direction for The John Steel Singers who for the past few years have been exploring more 70s funk and soul inspired records to blend with their unique sound.

For your chance to catch The John Steel Singers live, they’re playing the Kennedys Creek Festival in South West Victoria on 24 October, and The Triffid in Brisbane on 6 November.
