Loon Lake Call It A Day
After six years together, Melbourne rock band Loon Lake have announced that they will “call it a day”, but have given fans one last chance to see them on Final Wave Tour this October.
With only a couple shows left on their farewell “Final “Wave” tour of Australia, Loon Lake have announced they’ll be releasing one more album.
Titled ”Low Res”, the album will be a collection of the band's final recordings, put together over a year a fun, passionate, and back-to-basics sessions.
The band’s frontman Sam Nolan says they were working on the album long before they decided they were going to finish up as a band.
“It's not some throw away marketing idea to sell tickets for the tour, for us it's about showing our fans that we are a real and no bullshit band, about being able to look back and be proud of something, and we feel that this album really sums us up," Nolan said.
"We all decided that even though we knew we were probably not going to stay in the band for much longer, we wanted to do one more album.
“We wanted to do it our way and we made a pact: No over thinking, no synths, and all recording must be live”.
The band produced the album, recording it slowly over several weekends and whenever they had spare time.
“It was the best fun and most productive and positive we had been as a band in four or five years".
The band have decided to let fans pay what they want for the album, even encouraging people to rip it, copy it, sell it, and share it.
"We just want people to hear it! It's our way of saying thanks to all the fans for such great support”.
Loon Lake are adamant the decision to disband has caused no fall-out or drama between band members.
“Loon Lake isn't breaking up, we are just winding up. We are all still best mates and that wont change," Nolan said.
Over their career Loon Lake have released two EPs, landed a Triple J Hottest 100 hit with Cherry Lips, and off the back of their debut album “Gloamer” they played at Big Day Out, Pyramid Rock, Groovin' The Moo, Falls, and Southbound Festivals.
“Low Res” will be released on Wednesday 21st October.
The album will be emailed free of charge to those who bought tickets to the “Final Wave” tour.
