The wait is over, everyone rejoice, Ryan Adams’ cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989 album is here AND IT IS CRAZY GOOD!
Producer by Adams, the full 1989 reinterpretation of 1989 was revealed last month on his Instagram. Since then a spattering of snippets of songs were released. Swifty herself couldn’t even contain her excitement, rightly so, when Ryan announced he’d finished recording his version of her hit Style, she tweeted her response, ‘Cool I’m not gonna be able to sleep tonight or ever again and I’m going to celebrate today every year as a holiday. I’M CALM’. You sound calm, gurl.
Adams 1989 features, a string-quartet love ballad version of Blank Space, a 90s grunge-rock take on Style, an acoustic waltz version of Out Of The Woods and as Ryan promised, ‘guaranteed saddest version of Welcome to New York ever – or your tears back’. We might be ok, but we’re not fine at all.
This version is truly a reimagining, the same songs, same lyrics but somehow completely different, Adamsesk feels running throughout. Ryan Adams’ 1989 is out now on iTunes and is set to be released on CD and vinyl very soon.
