Broen Bring The Alt-Pop Chaos

Norwegian outfit Broen (pronounced Brooh-en) have released a new, eclectic single Boy, and it’s everything you’d expect from a European electro indie-pop band.

With lyrics like “my eyes just popped out” and “my tongue like a fluffy, red Hollywood carpet”, the song has a comical, cartoonish undercurrent. It’s essentially a mishmash of background sounds, layered over the top of each other. At times it feels a little busy, but as they all slowly build to a dense crescendo it seems to make chaotic logic.

The group’s debut single Iris has a similar fuzzy, chaotic vibe, backed up by confident vocals from lead singer Marianna Røe. The genre-clashing group are known for their ornate and spectacular live shows all over Europe, with heavy use of glitter and sparkles thanks to tuba player Heida’s grandmother acting as costume designer.

The track has a way of hooking you in with its cutesy and frantic sound, hinting to what you could expect from their live performances. Hopefully they head our way very soon.
