Feature Interview: Nicky Bomba 'The Melbourne Ska Orchestra'
In honour of Melbourne Ska Orchestra—a thirty-odd piece ska and 2 tone band—and their self-titled album, AAA Backstage’s Navarone Farrell caught up with Nicky Bomba.
Melbourne band Husky achieved their own little piece of musical history in becoming the first Australian band to be signed to iconic Sub Pop records. Now, they are following in the footsteps of past musical legends like the inimitable David Bowie in relocating to Berlin for a musical sojourn. As always, though, Australian fans are never far from this duos heart and they are leaving us with a simultaneously warm and saddening video clip.
'Drunk' is a flowing folk lament with wonderful changes of pace that zig when you think they'll zag. The video clip is much the same; though the subject matter in question is dark and filled with regret, the tones are warm and the wooden table looks solid and homely. A scene of destruction is played out in reverse over the table, as a spilled cup of alcohol turns into a raging waterfall cascading down.
Second LP Ruckers Hill, out now, has seen the duo crest new heights in securing deals with Embassy of Music and Nevado in Europe and America respectively. Berlin is the latest career move in an exponential rise for the duo, and it's as good a place as any in Europe to start: lead single 'I'm Not Coming Back' reached #55 on Germany's Hot 100 charts.
Husky are smack dab in the middle of an extensive European tour, though Husky Gawenda (aka one half of Husky) will be briefly back in Australia for a Beatles tribute concert. Keep an eye out for more news, it won't be long until Husky makes our jaws drop again.

The music universe is all a flutter since Queen B dropped her new self-titled album on us last week. We all want to know if this was all a sneaky ploy to stick one to the man or simply the best...
On Sunday morning a 35-year-old Melbourne woman was found dead in a collapsed tent at a boutique music festival, which was held on a farm in northern Victoria.
