Formed in 2012 by frontman David Leaupepe, Gang Of Youths started out in an inner city garage and fast became an entity on Sydney’s burgeoning live music scene earning reputation as a ferocious band who played each show as if it were their last.
Early releases ‘Riverlands’, Jack Moffit (The Preatures) produced ‘Evangelists’ and 2014 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition third place getter ‘Poison Drum’ sparked the attention of music lovers, industry and media alike culminating in a much-lauded showcase at CMJ Music Marathon and a slew of supports alongside world class acts such as Sky Ferreira, Smith Westerns, Vampire Weekend, Frightened Rabbit and Foster The People.
In late 2013 Gang Of Youths relocated to the US to record their debut album The Positions with producer Kevin McMahon (Real Estate, Swans) before mixing with Peter Katis (The National, Frightened Rabbit).
As they gear up for the LP’s 2015 release, they’ve shared ‘Benevolence Riots’, a bouncy, emotive tune that’s racked up over 100k Soundcloud plays in a month and was added to high rotation on triple j. Today, Gang Of Youths unveil the accompanying official music video and a run of East Coast single launches.
