The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) has released the first batch of ARIA Award nominations for 2015, which sees acts like Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett and Hermitude receiving early nods.
The Fine Arts and Artisans Award categories have been finalised, which has seen Tame Impala frontman Kevin Park nominated for both Engineer and Producer of the Year Awards for his work on his bands latest release ‘Currents’. Also nominated for Producer of the Year are Hermitude’s Luke Dubber and Angus Stuart who have earned nods for work on their album ‘Dark Night Sweet Night’.
In the Best Cover Art category, singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett has been recognised for the artwork on her debut album ‘Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit’, which she drew herself.
In something of a surprise, rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have earned an ARIA nomination in the Best Jazz Album category for their four track album ‘Quarters!’, which was recorded on an off day at Daptone Studios in Brooklyn in early last November and released in May.
Other early 2015 ARIA nominations have gone to engineers, producers and artists who worked on albums by Daniel Johns, Gang Of Youths, The Waifs and Flight Facilities.
The 2015 ARIA Fine Arts and Artisan Award winners will be announced at the ARIA Awards Nomination Event on Wednesday, 7 October before the 2015 ARIA Awards on Thursday, 26 November. Nominations for the other ARIA categories are yet to be announced.
