Boy & Bear Announce Australian Tour Dates 2013
After eight months in the studio, 7000 bowls of pasta and four moderate cases of tennis elbow, BOY & BEAR are hitting the road once again for the 16 Days Under A Southern Sun Tour.
Good news for all you Boy & Bear fans, with the band today announcing that their third studio album, ‘Limit of Love’, will be out on Friday October 9.
But wait, there’s more! To celebrate the new album, the first single, Walk the Wire, has been released and is available for digital download here.
‘Limit of Love’ is available to pre-order today on CD, digital download and limited edition vinyl.
Boy & Bear had a massive year in 2014, playing 170 shows across three continents. Not wanting to lose the momentum they had built on the road, the band headed straight into the studio and teamed up with renowned producer Ethan Johns, who has previously worked with Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon and Kaiser Chiefs.
Their goal was to cut a record the old fashioned way, live in the studio and straight to tape, with virtually no overdubs.
Frontman Dave Hosking said it was a daunting challenge to record his vocals lives with the band.
“But it’s funny you know, what made it less intimidating was having someone like Ethan there, who is such an advocate for it,” Hosking said.
“He put it on the table at our first meeting, that he’d be very keen to at least try going for it as a first approach. When we left the meeting we felt pretty good about it. We were up for the challenge.”
Check out how the album was made!
The challenge has paid off with lead single Walk the Wire a bold new statement of intent. The track is fuelled by a gritty guitar and synth groove, and buoyed by the organic production style of Ethan Johns in what is a nice taste of the new album.
Another first for Boy & Bear with ‘Limit of Love’ was the collective approach taken to writing new material. Up until now, the primary song writing duties fell to Hosking, but due to the demands of the heavy touring schedule hadn’t had the time to craft fully fledged songs. Most of the writing for ‘Limit of Love’ took place through the first half of 2015 on the New South Wales South Coast, where the band collaborated on a number of songs, including Walk the Wire.
“From my end, that new writing method is quite liberating and exciting,” Hosking said. “It means I can still do what I love, sit in my living room and pick up a guitar and sort of purge, plus there’s now double the amount of songs coming in from the band, so we’re drawing from a wider pool.”
From the recording technique to the shared song writing credits, it seems that this new album marks an attempt to capture the band at the height of their powers in a raw, organic way. Really looking forward to this one!
