Iconic Online Music Store Set For Closure

Telstra Bigpond Music Store has set a final date for its closure due to the rise in competition in the online music subscription services.

December 11 at 11:59pm will mark the end of an era for the Telstra Music Store which was launched in 2004, one of Australia’s first online download-to-own music stores. Existing customer will have an additional 24 hours to download any previous purchases.

The company is planning to partner with a music provider rather than maintaining their self-run Bigpond Music store, much like the company has with its MOG subscription service.

A spokesperson for Bigpond Music has said on behalf of the company "The download-to-own music market has changed a lot. We believe the best way for us to continue to provide great music services to our customers is via a partner model. Music is and will still be a major component of the premium content Telstra provides to thousands of Australians every day. We will provide our customers more information on our plans in due course."

Hopefully the sacrifice of this iconic online music store will see Telstra moving onto bigger and better projects in the future.
