It's that time of year, where Woolworths attempts to make Halloween a thing in Australia. Lollies are on sale and that dodgy wool stuff that kinda looks like spider webs (but we know is just dust gathered from a neglected holiday) is everywhere. But there is a good side. If this night of monsters, ghosts and ghouls is your schtick, then we have six of the best songs to get you ready to spook. Here's our Halloween playlist!
Thriller - Michael Jackson
It’s impossible to go past such an iconic piece of cinematic deliciousness. The classic song that had most wetting them selves just a little bit when they first saw the clip, but then had them coming back over and over again. One for every generation really. A special moment where everyone can put aside their differences and nail a flash mob of choreographed zombies.
Monster Mash - Bobby "Boris" Pickett & The Crypt Kickers
If you attend a Halloween party and this doesn’t play you are doing Halloween wrong and you should be ashamed of yourselves. A number one single from 1962 will never truly be forgotten, because we bloody well won’t let it be. The terrifying voice of Boris Pickett is something nightmares are made out of, but with a cheesy backing track it has everyone dancing poorly almost immediately.
Hello Kitty - Avril Lavigne
Not really Halloween, but this is fucking terrifying. What was Avril even thinking? Some Japanese words thrown into a clip filled with overly fluro colours and characters dressed in some novelty themed Supré type attire. Plus the song is just as bad. It’s a horror for any occasion.
I Put A Spell On You - Bette Middler (Hocus Pocus)
Bette Middler smashes this song in the classic 70s horror/comedy whirlwind that was Hocus Pocus. Now if you haven’t seen this movie, you now have plans for your Friday night. Watching three attractive actresses dressed to look like ugly witches trying to be sexy is one hell of a role, oh and they be sexy by singing this song. Is there anything more you need on your All Hallow’s Eve?
Backstreet Boys - Backstreet’s Back
Now we know your day was lacking a bit of Aaron Carter dressed as a mummy. But here you are; it’s a popular 90s boy band dressed as cliche monsters FOR NO APPARENT REASON and it’s fantastic. Watch it twice. Too good.
This is Halloween - Panic! At The Disco
There are The Nightmare Before Christmas covers floating around like crazy. But there is something about the crazy glint in the eye of front man Brendon Urie that will make any day of the year Halloween. The pop punkers have twisted their own style into the holiday classic to create something quite juicy.
