AC/DC Reveal 40th Anniversary Tour Plans
Proving that rock ‘n’ roll never really dies, AC/DC front man Brian Johnson has revealed plans for a 40th anniversary tour for the seminal Australian band.
Rumours of AC/DC’s impending retirement have been fuelled today amid news that Malcolm Young is seriously ill and will not perform live again.
Choirboys frontman Mark Gable is a close friend of the band and says that he believes the 61-year-old is unable to perform any more and that it seems likely that he will never record again.
Gable told ABC radio this morning Young’s illness may not necessarily stop the band continuing with plans for their 40th anniversary tour and to record their first album since 2008.
The Internet has seen a flurry of theories surround the bands retirement, with renowned US music news website Billboard quashing reports saying, “rumours of AC/DC’s imminent demise appear to have been exaggerated”.
On the contrary, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported that a source who knows the family has told Fairfax that Young’s condition has deteriorated so badly that his wife Linda and family were investigating full-time respite care for the guitarist.
The band has maintained very much a private identity for most of their career and some fans are disgusted that a personal issue has made headlines for a bad that was once so shielded.
Lead singer Brian Johnson said this year that the band was recording new material and could go on tour to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
They had reportedly booked studio time in Vancouver in May.
