Gig Guide August '15

August is a killer month for live music in Brisbane. Here's AAA's list of our two thumbs up approved gigs for the month:

SAT AUG 8 / The Grates / The Triffid

Fresh off a boisterous, crash-or-crash-through afternoon Amphitheatre set at Splendour, husband and wife duo Patience and John will have a splendid homecoming in just under a week when they take to the Triffid for their Team Work Makes the Dream Work East Coast Tour. Expect to hear plenty of juicy, sweet cuts from latest LP Dream Team. w/ Straight Arrows & Pleasure Symbols. Doors 7:30 PM. TICKETS.

THU AUG 20 / Xavier Rudd & the United Nations / The Tivoli

If you missed Xavier Rudd & the United Nations at Splendour, then the timing is perfect to catch them on their 35 date Flag Tour, named after the second single from their acclaimed debut album, Nanna. Go check out why some people in the know reckon Xavier Rudd is in possession of one of the best live bands in the world at the moment. w/ Bobby Alu. Doors 7 PM. TICKETS.

THU AUG 20 / Gang of Youths / The Triffid

Has any Australian band had a bigger 2015 than this Sydney rock band? The Positions debuted in the Top 5 of the ARIA Charts, has been featured on Triple J, and has helped sell an absolutely rapturous national tour. They’re going around the block once again, and there might not be too many tickets left for this one soon. w/ I Know Leopard & Zefereli. Doors 7:30 PM. TICKETS.

FRI AUG 21 / BANFF / Black Bear Lodge

Benjamin Forbes aka BANFF, formerly of Little Casino, is on the cusp of nationwide recognition. With an EP recorded with Tom Iansek of Big Scary, Future Self, out now, a recent coveted Japanese Wallpaper support slot, and over 140 000 Soundcloud plays for single ‘Stand in Line’, BANFF’s Future Self Tour promises to show an emerging musician’s burgeoning talent. w/ Denpasar. Doors 7 PM. TICKETS.

SAT AUG 22 / Northeast Party House / The Triffid

Northeast Party House finally made it, mum! Before leaving on their debut overseas tours the USA and Europe, NPH are throwing one last East Coast party with a handful of specially curated guests. SAT AUG 22 / Holy Holy / The Zoo

Holy Holy are a name plastered all over the radio at the moment, and with good reason: When The Storms Would Come, the duo’s debut LP, was one of our favourite cuts of the year so far! Touring nationally in support, we can expect “daring & powerful guitars, driving rhythms and even bigger vocals.” w/ Fractures. Doors 8 PM. TICKETS.

TUE AUG 25 / Passion Pit / The Tivoli

Michael Angelakos’ emotionally rich synth-pop has captivated audiences worldwide since 2009’s debut Manners. Recent album Kindred has continued with the candidness and irresistible hooks that have made Passion Pit a household name. Taking Sydney Triple J favourites The Griswolds with him, this gig is well worth the price tag. w/ The Griswolds. Doors 7 PM. TICKETS.
