Sugar Mountain Festival Announces First Act

Sugar Mountain Festival will return this January on the weekend that has traditionally hosted the Big Day Out. Boy oh boy does it have big shoes to fill.

Although the full lineup won’t be announced until October 14th, they have announced the first act on their 2015 lineup. It has been confirmed that Ariel Pink and his seven-piece band will be playing the event when in returns to Melbourne.

Ariel Pink will drop his new studio album pom pom on November 18th through 4AD. Described as a solo album, pom pom will feature 17 tracks including ‘Jell-O’ and ‘Plastic Raincoats In The Pig Parade’ which were co-written with the Runaways former manager, Kim Fowley.

The last Sugar Mountain festival featured performances from the likes of: Dirty Projectors, ESG, Action Bronson, Boomgates and, controversially, Kirin J Callinan. Earlier editions of the festival which debuted in 2011 featured performances by Deerhoof, Tune-Yards, Thee Oh Sees, Shabazz Palaces, Virgo Four, Julianna Barwick and John Maus. The festival also has a strong visual arts component, collaborating with the likes Misha Hollenbach, Maya Hayuk, Dylan Martorell, Vincent Moon and Beci Orpin.
