EP Review: 'Oh, Hunter' Hayden Calnin

Triple threat, singer-songwriter-producer, Hayden Calnin is set to release his second EP, ‘Oh, Hunter’ on Friday, February 21.

At only 24, Calnin is killing-it in the music industry with a massive list of notable achievements including radio play on Triple J as well as being picked in their 20 ‘Next Crop’ artists to watch in 2013. Calnin has also played at BIGSOUND and played sold out shows during his debut EP launch tour.

AAA Backstage were fortunate enough to listen and review the Melbourne folktronica singers upcoming EP. ‘Oh, Hunter’ is five tracks of easy listening music that makes you want to sway around the room singing the amazing lyrics of each song.

Calnin’s incredible voice mixed with slow and spectacular lyrics makes the entire EP worth a listen. The single Comatose is a catchy and emotional tune that you could listen to repeatedly and still love.

However, while all five songs are extremely well written, produced and enjoyable to listen to on their own, there is little stylistic variety and if listening to the entire album in one go, the release begins to sound like one long song.

Calnin has already released two singles from the album, Coward and Comatose. Comatose is now available to buy on iTunes.

The EP is now available for pre-order on iTunes.
