Top 5 Australian Music Videos 2011

Never to be underestimated is the power of the music video. This year we've seen a bunch of killer videos from a great number of Australian acts ranging from the poignant to the straight up bizarre. Here are our Top 5 Australian Music Videos of 2011.

5-'Chimera'-Snakadaktal

The Triple J Unearthed High winners for 2011 released the video for their hit single 'Chimera' back in June and has reached 120,561 views on YouTube. Filmed with a budget of $500 over one and a half days, the end product resulted in a beautifully shot video of singer Phoebe moving with a graceful awkwardness that perfectly matches the whimsical story and aura of the song.

4-'Oh Well, That's What You Get Falling In Love With A Cowboy'-Lanie Lane

Pocket rocket hottie Lanie Lane released this video for her new single (that sounds like it should be in a Tarantino film) back in October and features cowgirl Lane singing to the tied up no-good cowboy that broke her heart. Set in an old western cowboy saloon, memorable moments in the video include Lane riding a mechanical bull slo-mo. Whoa.

3-'Cameo Lover'- Kimbra

Adopted Aussie Kimbra proves with her video to single 'Cameo Lover' that you don't need to do anything crazy or high-production to be effective or entertaining. Performing with dancers against a white backdrop in bright colours that make it look as though the crayola factory exploded, the video is uplifting and compliments Kimbra's vocals to a T.

2-'Speak of the Devil'-Hermitude

They took out the J Award for 'Music Video of the Year' and there's no denying it wasn't deserved. The video for 'Speak of the Devil' features a number of B-Boys, B-Girls and breakdancers all dancing in sync to the hip hop group's hit of 2011. Shot in multiple frames it makes you wonder just how many shots it took to get everyone in unison. The style and energy of the dancing hits the nail on the head in relation to the song and it's vibe.

1-'Hands'-Alpine'

If there was ever a music video to make you say "What the Fuck" it's this one for the bands new single. The hands motif is carried all throughout the video with a bunch of beautiful women in a house making out with their own hands and various other items including an axe, watermelon and the TV. Watching it you feel as though you are in a dream of some sort, flattered beautifully by the harmonies of the song. It's a video that has you watching all the way through and for that it takes our number 1 spot for this years best Aussie music video.
