Seeking a Self-esteem boost? Compare yourself to 17-year-old Brisbane Producer/singer Olivia McCarthy or JOY who has just self-produced her first EP ‘Ode’...on second thought, don’t.
The 17 year old multi-instrumentalist and budding wonder-woman claimed the title of Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist for 2015, and since, her cape has been fluttering in a woosh of good things, sharing stages with artists Tkay Maidza, George Maple, Dustin Tebbutt and lending her sultry vocals to Peking Duk’s ‘Like A Version’ earlier in the year.
Amidst all this, JOY has released a new single ‘About Us’. Featuring her trademark ethereal vocals and dreamy pop percussion, showcasing her masterful production and incredible talent, in her debut 4-track, self-produced EP ‘Ode’ out 28th August.
Of the debut, JOY. notes “Over a week in May I locked myself in my studio consuming only coffee and doughnuts, and these longs nights resulted in me making a lot of whack shit. Out of the abundance of beats, material and ideas, I found a common thread and felt like these 4 tracks told a good story from start to finish. I’m really excited to finally put out a whole body of work.”
Adding to the hype and joy, that is JOY, she’s set to support Miami Horror on their national tour this August followed by an appearance at BIGSOUND. Keep your eyes and ears peeled, we’re predicting big things from this talented local heart shaker!
