Lorde And Daft Punk Dominate American Artists At The Grammys
A big round of internet applause for New Zealander Lorde and French robots Daft Punk for their amazing wins (and domination of the American nominees) at the Grammys yesterday.
Australian future-soul band Hiatus Kaiyote has been on a rapid trajectory since releasing its debut album Tawk Tomahawk in late 2012, gathering a plethora of friends and followers, critical acclaim and some super high profile champions along the way!
Questlove of The Roots, Erykah Badu and Prince (yes - that Prince) have all been tweeting Hiatus Kaiyote’s praises. Prince (@3rdeyegirl) recently tweeted about their single “Nakamarra” when he gave people the simple directive to "Don't Worry....Just Click" and watch the video.
Twelve months down the track, they’re about to embark on their third tour of the USA this year, followed by a twelve-date trek across Europe, but before they take off, they're playing a special headline show in Sydney tomorrow night, Saturday 26 October at The Standard Hotel.
This week, Hiatus Kaiyote also release a new EP, Live In Revolt, through Flying Buddha/Sony Masterworks, featuring re-imagined live versions of tracks from their highly acclaimed debut. Live In Revolt includes "Rainbow Rhodes/Nakamarra" and "Sphynx Gate/The World It Softly Lulls", and is available through iTunes and Amazon. A new live video featuring the tracks on Live In Revolt accompanies the release and you can watch that here.
It’s been a wild couple of years since fate brought the four members of Hiatus Kaiyote together. Singer Nai Palm’s performance with a pink nylon-stringed guitar at a small Melbourne club inspired bass player Paul Bender to seek her out. A year later, the two began to write together. Bender brought multi-instrumentalist Perrin Moss and keyboardist Simon Mavin into the equation and the electric, organic nature of Hiatus Kaiyote was set in motion.
Musician Taylor McFerrin came across Hiatus Kaiyote while on tour in Australia and soon the word spread like wildfire. Next thing you know they had an international deal with Sony, were touring the States and Europe, playing on Jay Leno…you get the picture…and with a 2014 release in the pipeline there’s no sign of it easing up any time soon.
