In what is a powerful sharp sonic left turn, the almighty CALLING ALL CARS are back with the sexy and swaggering ‘WEREWOLVES’ - the first official single from the band's as yet untitled third record - as well as a seven-date tour to support.
Shifting from some of their previous cues as the hard-rock behemoth their bulletproof reputation has dictated to this point, the song bursts the gates open to a brave new world for the band – it grinds along perfectly with a hormone-driven guitar fuzz like a pack of lustful, hungry beasts, creeping around a cemetery at midnight. Analogies aside, ‘Werewolves’ signals the new for Calling All Cars, recorded in Melbourne with producers Steve Schram (Clairy Browne & the Bangin' Rackettes, Eagle and The Worm, Little Birdy, The Vasco Era) and Tom Larkin (Shihad, Strangers, Young and Restless, Bodyjar, The Getaway Plan) and mixed by the Grammy Award-winning Tchad Blake (Pearl Jam, The Black Keys, Peter Gabriel).
This comes on the back of the back of two previously released and critically-acclaimed albums - 2010's Hold, Hold, Fire and 2011's Dancing With A Dead Man - a string of high rotation radio singles and AiR and APRA Award nominations, a Big Day Out tour and support slots with everyone from Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age to AC/DC, Green Day and Biffy Clyro.
This swiftly brings us right up to date to 2013, a year spent in the studio working on album number three and generally dropping hints of this exciting new direction and even the occasional song title. One song has already surfaced previously - the hard-hitting anthem ‘Raise The People’ was leaked via the band’s socials prior to fans only while the band have been playing a series of secret shows around Melbourne under the name “Werewolves”.
With their third long player confirmed for an early 2014 release, if these first steps are anything to go by, it’s set to be another mammoth year ahead for Calling All Cars. Joining them on the road will be indie punk trio from Canberra SUPER BEST FRIENDS and Melbourne rockers THE SINKING TEETH.
