Money For Rope Release Single 'Nova Pilota' and Announce Tour Dates

It happens only every now and then: a band surfaces whose intoxicating display of musicianship, song writing ability, and undeniable allure makes one question why on Earth more people haven’t twigged.

A band whose songs – pulsing with gutsy, brooding soul melodies and rapturous bass lines – aquate to nothing less than a sharp and undeniably classy evolution of their contemporaries. Staking their claim amongst the Australiana- soaked rock and roll that has defined a generation, this is Melbourne-based six-piece Money For Rope, set to tour the country in August, 2013.

Take front man/guitarist Jules McKenzie’s antagonistic and impassioned vocals, pair with five more of Melbourne’s most rousing performers, and you have a powerhouse outfit whose work commands attention. Money For Rope’s trademark soul-inspired rock instrumentation is as much a homage to the electrifyingly gritty aesthetic of Radio Birdman, The Vasco Era, and Franz Ferdinand as it is to the rich, heady tones of The Black Keys, The Vines, and Fraser A Gorman.

With a suitably impressive list of achievements, Money For Rope is a band primed and ready for the tour circuit. An initial run of Summer festivals – including appearances at Melbourne’s Big Day Out, Big Sound, Splendour in the Grass, Cherry Rock, Queenscliff Music Festival, The Hills are Alive, and Boogie – earned the band a coveted opening slot at Golden Plains in March, 2013. True to form, the band has been invited back to present at Big Sound 2013 in September. Having shared the stage with likes of Saskwatch, Fearless Vampire Killers, Wolf and Cub, and Those Darlins, it comes as no surprise that Money For Rope’s live show transforms even the most reserved audience into a formidable dance force on par with the band’s own valor, making it “impossible to stand still” (Tone Deaf). This is a driving brand of raw, soul-inspired rock and roll summoning those same darkened roots that make bands like The Drones – a well as Nick Cave’s various projects – so seductive. Money For Rope is an outfit of arresting lineage.

The band’s debut self-titled LP released in April, 2012 on the fresh-faced Thornbury Records label is truly a force to be reckoned with. The production skills of Steven Schram (Cat Empire, Clairy Browne and the Bangin’ Rackettes, Little Red, Devastations) pay homage to Money For Rope’s clever blend of gritty soul and rock and roll. Key tracks include the opener ‘Easy Way Out’ – complete with wailing organ solos and inebriating unison vocals – and the horror-tinged stomper ‘Misery Lane’ which is fat, fleshy, and cathartic all at once.

With a new single ‘Nova Pilota’, a sophomore album set for production in 2014 and a list of dates to whet any appetite for soul-lathered ferocity, it would be a mistake to miss Money For Rope as they tour Australia in August, 2013.
