NOMINATED FOR 3 BRIT AWARDS: BEST BRITISH BREAKTHROUGH ACT, BEST BRITISH GROUP, BEST BRITISH ALBUM OF THE YEAR
The phenomenal rise of alt-J continues with news that theyâ•˙ve been nominated today for three prestigious awards at the 2013 BRIT Awards, which will take place on 20 February at Londonâ•˙s 02 Arena. The nominations are for Best British Breakthrough Act, Best British Group and British Album of The Year for their debut album "An Awesome Wave".
Gus Unger-Hamilton, keyboardist and vocalist in alt-J, says of the nominations ╲It's a fantastic honour to get not only one but three nominations. The BRITS are something we've all grown up with as a pinnacle achievement in British music, and we're really proud to get this recognition. Also it should be a bloody good party.╡
The nominations come after an incredible 12 months for alt-J. The band released their stunning debut album "An Awesome Wave" in June 2012 to high critical acclaim. The album has gone on to be certified Gold in the UK and has sold an incredible 350,000 globally, making it one of the biggest debut albums of 2012. October 2012 saw the band perform two exclusive live shows in Sydney and Melbourne, which were sold out within a matter of minutes. In November 2012 alt-J became the winners of the prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2012.
Live wise, the band are going from strength to strength with their returning to Australia to perform at Laneway Festivals across the country. In anticipation of their return to Australia, a limited 2CD Deluxe Edition will be released on January 18, which includes a host of live, acoustic and remixed tracks.
