Yeasayer Australian Tour Dates - Supports Announced
Brooklyn’s psychedelic experimentalists YEASAYER make a welcome return to Australia this month with headline performances in Sydney and Melbourne, and also appearing nationally on Laneway Festival.
The band are pleased to announce supports for these special side shows, with OLIVER TANK and FISHING opening the show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Thursday January 31st, and MONTERO supporting at Melbourne’s Hi Fi on Wednesday February 6th.
Showcasing his own brand of incredibly textural glitch pop, OLIVER TANK takes the main spot for Sydney. Seemingly bursting out of nowhere after releasing his debut EP ‘ Dreams’ and receiving global attention right away, Oliver combines real instruments with computers to create heartfelt soundscapes so vivid they could only be dreamed of. With his next release is due out mid 2013, It’s easy to see why Oliver is one to watch this year.
Also playing Sydney’s Metro show, FISHING, are from that deep green inland sea just 38 nautical miles west of Sydney, known as The Blue Mountains. It's a landscape that’s evident in their two singles to date, “Choy Lin” and “White Sheet Beach” with their deep, beat driven ocean-scapes that sweep you far away. Stay tuned for their debut album set to be released early this year.
Support for the Melbourne show with be MONTERO. Led by Melbourne visual artist Ben Montero, the band features long time musical collaborator Gerald Wells on synthesizers, Chapter Music boss Guy Blackman on piano, Melbourne drumming legend Cameron Potts on the kit, local producer and bassist Robert Bravington and solo star sensualist Geoffrey O ‘Connor on guitar.
Evoking the extended soundscapes and textures of ’70s prog, the easy listening adult weirdness of Jimmy Webb and Bacharach, the sports arena pounding of vintage MOR rock at its best, and an emphasis on clear vocals, Gibb brothers style harmonies, soaring melodies, lush instrumentation and dreamy glam pomp; MONTERO’S live shows are a delirious celebration indeed. MONTERO’S debut album The Loving Gaze is due for release in early 2013.
