Feature Interview: Bec Laughton
Bec Laughton rushes into Kerbside, flustered and confused about what she’s exactly doing there. We’d dragged her away from a pre-show rehearsal. After a big glass of water a moment’s rest, I laid...
The lion-lunged, vocal powerhouse that is BEC LAUGHTON is back with a brand new single called 'Gonna Love You', the first to be dropped from her forthcoming, yet-to-be-named EP release.
Recorded and produced by Graham Ritchie (Emma Louise, Big Scary, Skinny Jean), the single is merely a taste of things to come for Laughton, a singer and songwriter who has evolved into something utterly remarkable, taking all her RnB influences and vocal inspirations and setting them against a backdrop of shimmering synths to create one very neat package of 'Gonna Love You'.
A tiny redhead with a giant voice, Laughton has quite a knack for penning a killer pop hook. After landing #1 on the triple j Roots Charts, getting CD of the week in Sydney Morning Herald and Indie Clip of the Week on Rage TV, word about Bec Laughton is bound to spread fast. She has played countless festivals, including main stage at Easterfest, Island Vibe, Woodford Folk Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Brisbane Festival, and wrapped up 2013 with her ‘Darkest Love’ tour which showed off her incredible live show to audiences around the country.
Laughton has recorded two EPs, At First Sight (2010) and By The Fire (2012) and is about to release her third which features ‘M&R’, the track responsible for her QMA Award win last year, set to be released later this year.
“It’s hard not to be charmed by her genuine and energetic performance.” Michael Kean, Tonedeaf
“Bec Laughton’s vocals ... beautiful and powerfully intense.” Bree Cohen, AU REVIEW
