Melbourne's CITY CALM DOWN Release New Single 'Speak To No End'
Today, Melbourne four-piece City Calm Down are pleased to present a brand new single titled ‘Speak To No End’ – the first taste from the band’s forthcoming double A-side release.
After spending three solid years honing their craft, City Calm Down released their acclaimed ‘Movements’ EP last November to a flurry of praise from critics, fans and their musical peers alike. This reaction saw the four friends invited to tour Australia with acts such as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, CHVRCHES and Alt-J, where they once again impressed.
In typical City Calm Down fashion, the band has spent the last 12 months tirelessly and meticulously labouring over new material and working towards their debut LP (due in 2014). In between the demoing process, the band found time to jump into the studio with emerging producer and previous ‘Movements’ collaborator Malcolm Besley to record two new tracks for this upcoming release, including the upcoming ‘Pavement’.
The lead result of these sessions, ‘Speak To No End’, features Jack Bourke’s powerful bravado, Jeremy Sonnenberg’s chugging bass lines, the swirling synths of Samuel Mullally and finally Lee Armstrong’s driving drum patterns. As the track continues to build over four and a half minutes, it takes the listener on a winding journey until reaching an absolute climax as Bourke continues to bark down the microphone somewhat reminiscent of a crazed and deranged man.
With ‘Speak To No End’ now revealed and ‘Pavement’ penned for a release in early 2014, City Calm Down continue to work on their debut LP.
