After the success of their well-received first effort ‘To You’, Battleships have emerged again with an exciting new release. ‘Take Your Rest’ is the first single from a batch of new material and brings the next development in Battleships’ sound, whilst also exhibiting some of the much admired attributes of their former work.
Their newest single is deep and thoughtful, while also still exhibiting that creative and addictive musical nous we’ve come to expect from Battleships. ‘Take Your Rest’ features the haunting vocals, innovative drumbeats and sweeping tones that have become synonymous with Battleships' work so far. This new track covers themes of longing and sacrifice and is another advance on the music coming from this Sydney-based four- piece. Battleships have landed the main support on Boy & Bear's upcoming national tour (which will see them play some fifteen dates with the Australian folk favourites) and have also shared the stage with the likes of The Preatures, St icky Fingers, The Holidays and The Paper Kites. They will be backing up this single release with a run of East Coast shows presented by the AU review, Select Music and The A&R Department, as well as a couple of festivals; in the form of Newcastle's Fat As Butter Festival and the Golden Days Festival on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
“It's great to hear some really intelligent, original indie again”
(Nick Findlay – Triple J)
“Haunting and hypnotic riffs coupled with moody, atmospheric vocals are what makes us sure Battleships will be on our radar for a while yet”
(Gordon Johnston – Glasswerk // UK)
“Battleships have cemented themselves as a band to watch on the indie-rock scene”
(Emma Kelly – Sydney Morning Herald)
