Brisbane Funk and Soul 10-Piece His Merry Men Strike Creative Gold with their New Single
Brisbane funk and soul 10-piece armada His Merry Men have struck creative gold with their new single - an upbeat, get ya dancin' track that just doesn't let up.
The troupe recorded the track on the Gold Coast at Recording Oasis mid 2013 with Daniel Denholm at the helm and now they will release it to the public November 13 (a little earlier to media!) in a dual single launch with funk friends, StormChasers at Brisbane's Black Bear Lodge.
Gold is an expansive brass and big vocal melody number, high on energy and sass. The track's chorus vocal soars across the line "Gimme the Gold!" and segues into a brassy, percussive middle 8 and a huge singalong outro to take it out on a high.
If you haven't heard (and you should have), His Merry Men are a 10-piece party machine with their roots heavily grounded in funk n soul with flavours of surf rock, hip hop and jazz for your all-out dance party experience.
They take their cues from legends such as Tower of Power, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and recent successes such as Mark Ronson, The Bamboos and The Cat Empire but have concocted their own cocktail of sassy, sweaty soul.
His Merry Men have only been together a short time - less than 4 years - but have earned their stripes, garnering praise and spins from jjj radio presenter Sarah Howells, love from roots blog Timber and Steel, spotlight on their release by Melbourne's PBS and Brisbane's 612 ABC Radio.
As well as this, they have entertained crowds at Caloundra Music Festival (2012), Island Vibe Music Festival (2012), Live It Up Music Festival (2013) and Brisbane Festival (2013), and sharing the stage with some of the best in the business - Tijuana Cartel, Vaudeville Smash, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Saskwatch, The Good Ship and Lowrider.
His Merry Men release 'Gold' on November 13 at Black Bear Lodge alongside pals StormChasers and Astrid and the Asteroids. It will be available on iTunes, BandCamp and DropCard.
