Courtney Barnett Cleans Up 2015 Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards

The winners of the 2015 Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards were announced last night in Melbourne, with Courtney Barnett the night’s big winner, collecting three awards.

The singer/songwriter took home three of the most prestigious awards: Best Independent Artist, Best Independent Album for ‘Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit’ as well as Best Independent Single for Depreston.

Barnett is no stranger to these awards after scooping up Best Independent Artist and Best Independent Single awards last year. Barnett was unable to attended the ceremony to collect her awards as she is currently on tour in the US, and is set to play New York’s Madison Square Garden along with Blur.

Las year’s Best Independent Hip Hop Album winner Remi and Sensible J presented the award to this year’s winner Seth Sentry for his release ‘Strange New Past’. Unfortunately he was also unable to attend as he is recovering from leg surgery.

The highly praised category of Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year went to #1 Dads, who are riding high after a huge year, including the release of their album ‘About Face’.

The coveted Best Independent Label Award was won by Milk! Records, which is home to Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher and Fraser A. Gorman, among other acts.

The night also played host to a number of musical performances, headlined by a surprise special performance from winner of multiple Independent Awards John Butler, who has just returned back to Australia after three months touring Europe and the US. Other artists who entertained the crowd included Brisbane electro-pop artist Airling, who kicked off the night with a rendition of her latest single Stallin’ whilst Bad//Dreems, Dead Letter Circus and Harts kept the awards rocking along.
