This year’s Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards is almost here and it’s time to announce the performers!
The 10th annual Awards will happen in Melbourne, at Meat Market on October 22nd, featuring such amazing acts like Airling, Bad//Dreems, Dead Letter Circus, Frank Yamma and Harts. Definitely a lineup to look forward to, right?
It’s hard not to mention, what a rad year it was for miss Hanna Shepherd, the Airling, who kicked off 2015 touring with Vance Joy and Pieater label mates #1 Dads, performing at Splendour and finally releasing her single ‘Stallin’, which was followed by collaboration with Japanese Wallpaper on ‘Forces’.
As for Bad//Dreems, these noisy boys were nominated on Best Independent Single for their ‘Cuffed and Collared’ and the four-piece will also perform at this years Awards. Guys did heaps of stuff this year, like rocking Splendour, working with veteran rock producer Mark Opitz, released debut LP Dogs At Bay through Ivy League Records and were also booked to perform with The Black Keys, before the show’s cancellation.
Meanwhile, there’s another insane rock act to join the lineup, meet and greet Dead Letter Circus. The band had recently released third album, which debuted at #1 on the Carlton Dry Independent Music Album Chart and #2 on the ARIA Album Chart. Their previous albums were at the peak of success as well, hitting #2 on ARIA Charts. These guys entered Triple J Hottest 100, and it’s only one out of lots of reasons to come see them.
Then there’s Frank Yamma, one of Australia’s most significant Indigenous songwriters and singers. Coming from Australia’s central desert, he sings both in native tongue and English. His latest album Uncle is out through Wantok Music Foundation and it’s definitely shows whole range of Frank’s talents and skills. He started to perform at the age of 9 and see where he is now!
Don’t you worry, we didn’t forget about Harts. Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and just an incredible human being had already conquered our hearts long time ago. Being compared to Hendrix and Prince is a pretty sick thing, especially for Harts, who released his debut album in 2014 and recently dropped great single ‘Breakthrough’. Harts’ album Daydreamer was released through A&R Records, was performed completely by Harts and that pretty much led to “one man music making machine” label.
