Sydney Storms Wreak Havoc With Good Life and Soundwave

Good Life, the world’s largest under-18 music festival, has endured a decidedly soggy start to its 2015 run of dates with 20000 punters forced to evacuate Randwick Racecourse in the midst of up to 100 km/h winds from the storm that battered the city yesterday.

The announcement to cancel the festival came just after 5 pm after the wild winds had blown out the side of one stage, according to an eyewitness, and caused particular damage to the eastern fence and structures of Good Life.

Police, however, have commended patrons in complying with directions swiftly and safely, with no injuries and only one arrest made for an alleged assault. Punters initially took shelter in the grandstands before being conveyed via bus to Moore Park and Central Station.

Meanwhile, Soundwave Festival, which was also being held in Sydney at Olympic Park, was forced to temporarily close its two main stages around 4 pm local time while the squall passed. This forced pop-punk band All Time Low to cut short their Main Stage set, also suffering water damage to amps and equipment. Lead singer Jack Baraket did, however, return to lead chanted versions of 2009 single “Weightless” and a cover of Queen’s “We Will Rock You.”

Good Life festival continues today in Perth, Friday in Brisbane and concludes next Monday in Melbourne.
