Heavy Metal And Economic Growth, What More Could You Want?

Acting treasure Christopher Lee has celebrated his 92nd birthday by releasing a third heavy metal album but according to Canadian researchers Lee could be raising the UK’s economic growth as well as proving the 92 year olds can be totally badass.

Richard Florida from the Martian Prosperity Institute has spent his valuable scientist time researching the links between the amount of heavy metal a country contains and the nation’s economic output, level of creativity and entrepreneurship.

Florida uncovered that in Scandinavian countries, where the metal concentration is highest, a higher share of adults that hold degrees, as well as better levels of human development, well-being, and satisfaction with life.

While this is an interesting and important discovery the fact remains that, according to the map below, there are 53.2 heavy metal bands per one hundred thousand people in Finland. This means that means there’s a metal band for every 1879 peoples listening pleasures. You go Finland.

Australian definitely isn’t up to Finland standards but isn’t doing too bad for itself with somewhere between 4.66 and 11.67 heavy metal bands per one hundred thousand people.

So all those disenfranchised youths out there do your part for Australians economy and start a heavy metal band.
