A New Stream For Apple

They say that change is as good as a holiday… Let's hope Apple's latest 'holiday' doesn't leave us stranded on a strange, music-less island. Apple is set to undergo a complete overhaul of its download store, in what is to be "the most dramatic" update in more than a decade.

The lack of success following the launch of iTunes Radio has apparently sparked Apple to implement some changes. Released in a bid to combat the music downloading epidemic, iTunes radio has so far only seen about 1%-2% of listeners actually clicking the buy button.

The practice of streaming music is on the rise and digital music sales are down for the first time in 10 years, yet the company's influence over streaming services such as YouTube, Spotify and Pandora has slipped by 20% since 2012. As a result, Apple is being forced to reconsider the way in which its download store operates.

Although there is yet to be any official word from Apple, there are a number of possibilities for the update. First and foremost, a step toward on-demand streaming, as well as the possibility of bringing iTunes over to the Android platform.
