Lorde And Daft Punk Dominate American Artists At The Grammys

DaftPunk

A big round of internet applause for New Zealander Lorde and French robots Daft Punk for their amazing wins (and domination of the American nominees) at the Grammys yesterday.

New Zealand's very own Lorde proved she is in fact Queen Bee as she took home two shiny gold statues for Best Solo Pop Performance and Song Of The Year (alongside producer Joel Little) for the smash hit Royals. Lorde beat American artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Pink, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake to win these awards.

Even though Lorde had strange dip-dyed fingers (not fingernails… fingers) during her live performance of Royals and although she seemed like a fish out of water during both acceptance speeches (we assume that was nerves though) she absolutely rocked her first Grammys and did the Southern Hemisphere proud!

Daft Punk were also big winners yesterday as they took home five shiny gold statues, for Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Dance Album and Best Engineered Album - Non-Classical. Daft Punk beat American superstars Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Pink, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake to win these awards! Go Daft Punk!

However, Australian artists and first time nominees Tame Impala and Hiatus Kaiyote didn't win in their categories of Best Alternative Music Album and Best R&B Performance (respectively). Tame Impala's album Lonerism lost to Vampire Weekend's Modern Vampires Of The City and Hiatus Kaiyote's performance of Nakamarra lost to Snarky Puppy with Lalah Hathaway for their performance of Something.

Hiatus Kaiyote were incredibly gracious losers with keyboardist Simon Mavin saying the band was overwhelmed just to be nominated.
