After the successful release of their third album ‘The Depths”, The Blackwater Fever are pleased to be hitting the road again to celebrate their second single “Won’t Cry Over You”.
Violent Soho 'Hungry Ghost' LP Out Today & Free Show Tonight
To my knowledge (and the best of my memory) the first time I ever heard the name ‘Violent Soho’ was while sitting in a tour van with Howl (now Hunting Grounds), Yacht Club DJs and DZ Deathrays.
Shane from DZ was barking down my ear about all the amazing things these four dudes from Mansfield were doing over in New York. They’d signed to Thurston Moore’s label, toured the US with bands like Dinosaur Jr, Alice in Chains, The Bronx and Built To Spill, released a single (Jesus Stole My Girlfriend) that was killing it on the Billboard Charts and they were doing all this while living in a tiny 2-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn with their manager and girlfriends.
From that moment on I began to follow Violent Soho and their movements, becoming an avid fan of not only their music but also the ethos they pushed along with it.
A few years on from that van ride, I ended up meeting Violent Soho at Yellowbird (the greatest bar in the world) through their manager, Nick Yates, while they were touring with Arctic Monkey’s and they told me that they were busy writing their third LP. After hanging out some more and much to be great excitement, we decided that it would be a good idea to release that LP through I OH YOU.
Today, I OH YOU could not be prouder to release Violent Soho’s third LP ‘Hungry Ghost’.
Recorded over 6 weeks earlier this year by producer Bryce Moorhead (The Quickening, Dick Nasty) and The Shed Studios in Brisbane and mixed by John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth), ‘Hungry Ghost’ see’s the band reach (what we consider to be) new heights in their writing which has already been received with open arms by fans and critics alike…and is currently sitting in the top 10 on the iTunes charts!
Having just completed a sold out run of album preview dates and alongside the announcement of their headline album tour with Straight Arrows, Violent Soho have also been announced on the stellar Falls Festival and Southbound line ups which will no doubt see them getting heavy this summer with fans and festival goers.
Finally, in true Soho fashion, the band have announced that they will be playing a free all-ages show at Tym Guitars in Brisbane (where James from the band works and a store that has always support Violent Soho) tonight to celebrate the release of ‘Hungry Ghost’ and thank their hometown for the ongoing support. The show will begin at 6:30pm however we’re encouraging fans to get down slightly earlier than that.
