APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) is pleased to extend the deadline for the 2013 APRA Professional Development Awards (PDAs). The deadline for submissions for the 2013 APRA PDAs now closes on Monday January 21st, allowing more songwriters and composers the chance to get their entries in for the career boosting opportunity of a lifetime.

Open to all* emerging songwriters and composers, each PDA winner will receive a prize package that includes cash, product, travel, education and recognition, valued at over $30,000. The APRA Professional Development Awards are held every two years and are given to eight emerging songwriters and composers across the following six categories:

  • Popular Contemporary (three Awards are given in this category including Pop, Rock, Blues, Folk, Hip Hop, Dance and R&B)
  • Country
  • Jazz
  • Classical
  • Film and Television
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI)

All PDA winners will take home a life changing prize package including $12,000 cash courtesy of APRA. Winners will also receive a ‘Music Industry Consultancy Package’ that involves one-on-one sessions with Managers, Publishers and Music Industry business teams, so they’ll be fully set up to take their career to the next level.

In association with the Professional Development Awards, APRA has once again partnered with the University of Tasmania to present the UTAS Stephen Schwartz Songwriting Award. This award will provide a promising Australian songwriter or group in the Soul, Gospel and/or Musical Theatre genre with a development grant of $10,000 along with runner up prizes.

An accomplished group of judges including Jason Mraz, Josh Pyke, Julian Hamilton, Gary Clark, Troy Cassar-Daley, Mark Moffatt, Sam Hollander and Gary Clark will determine the winners of the 2013 PDAs to be announced in March.
