We Interview Greenthief

James from AAA got to chat with Julian Schweitzer the frontman for Brisbane Alternative rock Outfit from Greenthief!

Greenthief

Congratulations on just announcing your “Epidemic” tour; what can we expect from this tour?

Thank you.  Most of our pride comes from our live show.  You can expect to be taken on a psycadelic journey that will see you weeping for reasons you don’t know why, be prepared.

Where will you be touring – are venturing to any new places or venues?

We have previously visited all the destinations on the Epidemic Tour but will be playing some new venues.  The tour after (with The Butterfly Effect) will be taking us into a lot of new territory.

Your killer new single ‘Epidemic’ recently made its debut on Triple J. How did that moment feel?

It is always a great feeling hearing your own music on national radio.  My dad actually tuned into the J’s to have a listen and the experience was overtaken by my farther commentating on the state of today’s music, was quite ammusing...

Does it feel like a breakthrough – gaining national exposure such as that?

Yes of course but it all comes down to repetition, ie getting on high rotation which we haven’t cracked yet.

You just signed with Starving Kids for 3 songs….Have you worked with them before?

We played an all ages show last year in which SK organised but as a label, no we haven’t.  We’ve been talking to SK over the past 6 months and they have been really accomodating to our needs as a band.  They managed to tailor a contract that is really accomodating which we are stoked with.

What can we expect from the upcoming tracks? Is there a new EP in the works?

This is where it gets fairly complicated, and the reason behind us signing a singles deal with SK instead of an EP/Album deal is that we are still unsure how we will release the tracks (in a physical sense). Personally I really like the idea of the 3 singles becoming apart of our debut album to be released sometime in 2013, this really all depends on how 2012 pans out.

In terms of the songs themselves, we’re obviously trying to find our most appealing singles whilst keeping our sound.

You were just announce as supporting act for The Butterfly Effect on ‘The 10 Tour” in April….I can imagine that is very exciting for you guys. How did you score that gig?

Yes, this is very exciting for us.  We’ve been slogging away at it for a while now so when we shot their management an email enquiring about the tour they knew who we were and guess they thought we would be a good fit.

As a fellow Brissy band, do you find it important to support and tour with one another?

It really depends on what level your band is at.  For The Butterfly Effect, it wouldn’t really matter who they’re touring with, they are still going to pack out venues.  If you are a bit more local, you won’t be doing yourself or fellow bands a favour by playing outside Brisbane together unless you are receiving strong national exposure, even then it’s tricky.

And finally, in typical AAABackstage tradition, if your band were an animal what would you be?

A black unicorn.  I don’t think creature doesn’t exists, I guess that’s the point.
