Karl S. Williams to Launch Debut Album 'Heartwood' in Brisbane
Heartwood is the debut album by Karl S. Williams and represents a personal dialogue with the infinite.
Black Bear Lodge will play host to three of Brisbane’s most exciting musical prospects on April 1: folk singer/ songwriter duo Amela, band-of-brothers Outliers, and, making their BBL debut, indie pop band Allie Falls.
With only a single under the belt thus far, it is the potential of Allie Falls that captures the imagination. 2014’s “Hunger” stoked those fires further; a sparse Sarah Blasko-like piano opens up to beautiful harmonies, pulsing drums, and transcendent vocals and lyrics piercing through like a knife through velvet. Samantha Perren and Ally Cole, co-frontwomen, are sure to be bringing their ethereal best with the support of their backing band for a debut at a Brisbane institution.
Outliers are the latest in a stream of Brisbane rock bands that has gotten thicker and thicker as the decade’s worn on: think Dallas Frasca, Little Odessa, Sans Parents etc. They do the tradition proudly: their Triple J Unearthed song, “City” has earned a rave review from Lindsay “The Doctor” McDougall.
Amela (Amela Duheric and Jacob de Weger) play on the lead singer’s Bosnian roots to produce sultry, melodic snatches of music. Having already released a digital EP, 2014’s Not Enough Honey, which received favourable press from international blog ‘The Wild Honey Pie’, 2015 looks to be even larger with the promise of singles, EP’s and a national tour.
Many a fantastic music career has begun in the history-stained walls of Big Bear Lodge. We could be seeing three more.
