Formed in 2003, Bloc Party have been one of the most influential rock bands in the past decade. Comprised of Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Matt Tong and Gordon Moakes, they dropped their first album ‘Silent Alarm’ in 2005, which was voted NME’s ‘Indie Album of the Year’ as well as reaching number 3 on the UK Album Charts.

The band soon reached international stardom, playing to sold out shows around the world. Releasing their second studio album in late 2006, the band’s goal was to craft an album that distanced them from the convential guitar band set-up by incorporating more electronically processed beats and additional instrumentation. Receiving impressive reviews from critics, the album peaked at number 12 in the US Billboard charts, whilst reaching number 2 in Australian and the UK respectively. The Guardian included it in its list of ‘1000 Albums to Hear Before You Die’.

REGULAR JOHN Announces Free Show at The Lansdowne Hotel August 19

On the eve of recording their new album, Sydney psychedelic rockers, Regular John, announce they will perform a very special FREE show for their home-town crowd at the Lansdowne Hotel in Sydney on August 19.  The show will be the first in a series of three low-key, free shows that the band will perform at venues in Sydney’s inner-west over the next month.

The Lansdowne gig will serve as a testing ground for the band as they try out their new material on fans. It’s also one of the last chances that punters will get to see the band play before they head into lock-down for recording with long-time collaborator, Tim Powles (The Church).

Brisbane quartet Def Radio play Rics Saturday August 27th

They're about to start recording their little indie-pop bums off but before they disconnect from society to do so, Brisbane quartet Def Radio will take to Rics alongside instrumental indie-rockers Mr Maps. Mr Maps have just showered and changed after launching their new single, Tennis Party, so it will be soft claps,  white skirts and cucumber sandwiches for all. Rics, Saturday, August 27.

Musicians, Managers, Graphic Artists, Designer’s & More - Want To Work In The Music Industry?

Q Music in conjunction with Youth Music Industries present “Little BIGSOUND 2011” a one-day forum for young musicians looking to break into the music industry. Facilitated within the Judith Wright Centre, Brisbane’s premier performing arts centre, Little Big Sound is an offshoot of the annual Q Music BIGSOUND Conference.

The day is focused on building skills, and providing information specifically targeted at young people. Little BIGSOUND is not only a series of break-out panel sessions featuring established young professionals already working within the music industry, but is a way for attendees to form connections and develop professional relationships.

After the formal conference program has ended, an afternoon tea will be provided with live acoustic entertainment from some of Brisbane’s amazing up and coming talent. Finally as night falls, live music featuring established and breakthrough artists will be showcased within the Judith Wright Centre performing arts space. The event finishes at 8 pm.
