ALEKS AND THE RAMPS launch Middle Aged Unicorn… in MELBOURNE!
To celebrate the release of their latest single, Middle Aged Unicorn on Beach with Sunset, Aleks and the Ramps will be playing a very special launch show at Buffalo Club in Melbourne on Thursday 10 November.
Since its release, Middle Aged Unicorn on Beach with Sunset has been doing the rounds on triple j and community radio nationally, while the undeniably rad video clip - resplendent with burning toys, psychedelic parasols and serious trampoline skills has been infiltrating every corner of the interweb.
Charlie Mayfair Tell All
As 2011 draws to a close, Charlie Mayfair are certainly not winding down with it. The sonically sensational Brisbane outfit are seeing the year out on tour with both emma louise and Husky as well as sought-after festival appearances at the Woodford Folk Festival and Brisbane’s No Years. And what a year it’s been for the five piece!
The release of single ‘Tell Her’ was the first glimpse of a darker, edgier sound departing from their previously fantastical pop melodies. The rich authenticity of this track unleashed the promise that the five-piece have always shown, detonating under the eyes of an ever-growing fan base, media and industry alike. Whilst consistently admirable reviews surfaced, ‘Tell Her’ secured momentum on community radio nationally, in particular FBi, SYN, 2SER and 4ZzZ. National broadcaster triple j showed it’s support with the single being featured on Australian music show Home & Hosed’s radio ad on top of regular spins.
Matt Corby Melbourne EP Launch Show SELLS OUT with Second Date On-Sale
Matt Corby’s EP launch show at The Toff In Town, Melbourne, has sold out just two weeks after going on-sale. A second show has been added for Thursday December 1 and is on-sale today. The Sydney based singer songwriter is receiving a lot of love from National Alternative radio, who have picked up his current single ‘BROTHER’ from the forthcoming EP release ‘Into The Flame’.
Matt has spent the last 4 weeks on the road as part of his national Secret Garden Tour; a completely different experience to the EP Launch shows. Matt's fans from around Australia have nominated themselves to host an intimate acoustic gig in their back garden. Fans have to apply for spots at the shows and, if successful, receive a private invitation to the show of their choice.
Laneous and the Family Yah Fri Nov 4th @ Woodland
Hot off the back of their recent BIGSOUND performance, Brisbane 4 piece Laneous & The Family Yah’s SCISSORS EP has been added to over 100 stations across the American College Radio Network, featuring in numerous Top 30 Charts and receiving plays on some of its biggest stations including KCRW in LA and WNYU in New York.
The bands aforementioned Bigsound performance earlier this month caused quite a stir, partly due to it being the debut of their new 4-piece line up. With a mandate of 'more with less' , the 4 piece exposes the freakishly talented multi- instrumentalist in James Lane (Laneous) that has for so long been reserved for the studio. Further, it sees the Family Yah ‘tech up’ - adding Synthesizer, MPC, vocal looping/fx and a space station worth of guitar effects to their existing on stage set up. All whilst shrinking numbers to a hatchback sized touring party.
Dan Sultan to rock the HiFi Bar - Dec 9th
Dan Sultan brings the band back to Brisbane by popular demand for the first time in almost two years. The band’s come a long way since their pumping sell-out Brisbane shows way back in May 2010. In that time dynamic front man Dan Sultan went on to win “ARIA Male Artist of the Year” whilst the band’s album Get Out While You Can picked up an ARIA gong for “Best Blues & Roots Album”. Notably Dan Sultan and his musical partner Scott Wilson were nominated for the highly prestigious and coveted APRA Breakthrough Songwriters of the Year 2011.
Brisbane audiences can expect another knock out performance featuring tracks from the highly acclaimed album and No. 1 AIR charter “Get Out While You Can”. The band’s powerful performances are reputed to be amongst the most talked about live shows in the country. Now with a show that is honed to perfection and with a voice that is simultaneously sweet and rough, front man Dan Sultan will belt out haunting acoustic ballads to big band soul rock guaranteed to make you groove. The current ARIA Male Artist of the Year promises the Brisbane audience a night to remember at the HiFi Bar on Friday December 9. Get tickets while you can.
Gyroscope - Perth date added to the Choose Your Own Adventure Tour
GYROSCOPE have set the wheels in motion for what looks set to be one of their most exciting touring adventures ever. The great idea behind the now looming CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE TOUR is that Gyroscope’s much-loved fans dictate the songs performed live via a public vote. Now, the setlist for this weeks WA dates has been announced along a highly demanded hometown Perth show.
GYROSCOPEfans are equal parts dedicated and zealous in their hometown Perth, so it is with great excitement that the band announce the final stop on the Choose Your Own Adventure Tour will be an intimate one at the Rosemount Hotel. Fans can ring in the silly season with the Gyros on Friday December 02. There will be the special fan-chosen setlist and the local stalwarts no doubt be at their very best after a 5 month break throughout the middle of the year and a triumphant return to the stage.
Joining Gyros on this special show is a host of local Perth talent in ARTS MARTIAL and I, SAID THE SPARROW. Both acts have been making waves both in WA and beyond this year, and we hear their live shows take a leaf out of Gyroscope’s own balls out, thrill a minute rock show. The first slice of Arts Martial’s debut album (single Running) has been garnering triple j love, while I, Said the Sparrow have been venturing outside of WA this year, sharing stages with great acts like Trial Kennedy, Wolves and The Mission in Motion. A nice solid bill to give Perth fans a most memorable set of performances, start to finish.
While the setlist for this month’s WA dates have been announced (see list below) fans eager to ensure their favourite fresh or vintage Gyroscope tracks get a live airing can still vote for all east coast dates and the Perth show at Gyroscope’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/gyroscopemusic) Voting closes early November, so get your Gyroscope records out, re-learn the words and get voting here.
