Back You are here: Home Gig Guide

2011 is the year of Lanie Lane.

At the beginning of 2011, Lanie won a slot on the Sydney Big Day Out line-up thanks to Triple J’s Unearthed Competition discovering her song, 'What Do I Do'.

This was followed by accompanying You Am I’s Tim Rogers on ‘Trigger Finger’, several live shows including UK and USA tours, and an invitation from the one-and-only
Jack White to record a couple of tracks in his Nashville studio.

Bobby Alu: Feelin’ Fine - The Sunday Arvo Sessions

Having spent the last 4 months touring across Canada and the USA with Oka, Bobby Alu returned to Australia a few weeks ago just in time to celebrate his one year anniversary of playing live. Aptly, the venue for the occasion was The Island Vibe Festival on Stradbroke Island, where it all began for him 12 months ago. Having quite literally only just arrived back in the country, Bobby cut it pretty fine, making it to Straddie only two hours before he was due onstage.

Having also just showcased at the Australasian World Music Expo last week in Melbourne, Bobby is glad to be back in Australia for summer, as The Au Review said of his recent single ‘Take It Or Leave It’, “a great chilled, laid back reggae sound that is the perfect soundtrack for when the weather gets warmer”. In order to celebrate this and in keeping with the island flavoured, soul-reggae vibe he’s renowned for, Bobby has announced that forgoing the standard evening fair, he will be heading into the hot season with a string of ‘Sunday Arvo Sessions’. Entitled The ‘Feelin’ Fine Tour, the Sunday arvo sessions will also serve as the precursor to Bobby’s new single and accompanying national tour, to take place early next year.

Brooklyn indie electro-pop duo Chairlift return to Australian shores in 2012, set to entrance audiences with shows at Laneway Festival and exclusive sideshow performances in Sydney and Melbourne.

Members Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly first captured the attention of international listeners with their breakout single ‘Bruise’ and debut record Does You Inspire You in 2008.  They displayed a range of uncanny pop sensibilities, combining polished production with an other-worldly gaze similar to fellow Brooklyn experimentalists MGMT, Yeasayer and Mixel Pixel.

Soundwave sideshows - SYSTEM OF A DOWN

There is no other band around who can match the audacity, intensity and progressive nature of SYSTEM OF A DOWN.

With SYSTEM OF A DOWN operating at such astonishing creative and emotional heights they quite simply leave the rest of the herd scrabbling in the dust.

It was 2001’s ‘Toxicity’ that cemented their reputation. With every track tightly coiled, urgent and “cast in layers upon layers of aural intricacy, Toxicity charters new frontiers, yet it’s still grinding rock at its most deafening.”  – L.A Weekly

The Kransky Sisters and Topology are back with another serving of whimsical yet calculated mayhem

After the success of their collaborative show in 2008, The Kransky Sisters will again be joining contemporary chamber ensemble, Topology for some twisted comical, musical encounters in 5 very special performances: Wed Nov 30th through Sat Dec 3rd @ The Brisbane Powerhouse. Including a Sat matinee performance, tickets are available

The Kransky sisters

Who would have imagined that when Topology’s bass player Robert Davidson fell off his bicycle while cycling through Esk in rural Queensland, that he would have landed in a ditch right outside The Kransky Sisters’ house! A haul out with a crocheted blanket, and a lamington later, Robert found himself in a duet with tuba player Dawn Kransky!

Having played more than 180 SOLD OUT shows worldwide off the back of their debut GOLD album, FOSTER THE PEOPLE return to Australia to satisfy the masses with headline performances in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in January 2012.

FOSTER THE PEOPLE went from an LA indie club act to an international hot ticket off the back of their EP, but it was their debut album Torches that saw them become festival favourites and radio royalty. Forming in 2009, the trio met in the City of Angels after frontman Mark Foster made the movefrom middle America Ohio. Foster was bored at work one day and penned a little ditty that would become a massive track the world over.  It was called ‘Pumped Up Kicks’

MARIACHI EL BRONX Big Day Out sideshows announced

MARIACHI EL BRONX, also known as ‘that punk band that started releasing Mariachi records’, are coming to Australia with the 2012 BIG DAY OUT festival as part of arguably the best line-up to date.

Mariachi el Bronx

LA born and bred MARIACHI EL BRONX are no strangers to our lands. A mere 2 years ago we witnessed their Australian touring debut as the opening act for none other than, you guessed it, themselves (The Bronx, that is). 13 months later, MARIACHI EL BRONX induced a sudden influx of interstate travel when they played a one-off sold out show at The Forum as part of Melbourne Festival 2010.

KITTY, DAISY & LEWIS Big Day Out sideshows announced
